A Rich Heritage Of Elegance And Luxury

La Martina Autumn/Winter 16-17 collection draws inspiration from a journey across Latin lands, all the way to the sophisticated yet quietly lavish city of Paris, seen through the eyes of viveurs between the 1940’s and 50’s.

Salons, travel, car racing, irresistibly charming women, polo tournaments and glamorous parties: this was the life of Porfirio Rubirosa, a true hedonist of bygone days, a Dominican diplomat, a polo player and a playboy from the 50’s as well as the true driving force of La Martina new collection, intended as a tribute to the world of polo on and off the field, its lifestyle and sophistication.

The collection takes cues from the glory of a former era and revolves around a young man and his fervent passion for polo – with which La Martina has been most closely associated for over three decades – throughout his daily activities from day to evening: training and competing on the playing field, revelling in the Club House lifestyle and celebrating victory after a star-studded match.

Designed by Timothy Everest, a Welsh bespoke tailor, the Autumn/Winter collections achieves the best of British tailoring with attentiveness to contemporary trends. Here we highlight two of the total of four different styles which made up the collections:

  • Colección Privada: for special and social occasions

The winter season lends a new aura to both men’s and women’s clothing introducing designs and fabrics imbued with delightfully retro vibes to dress a young passionate polo player off the playing field. Such grandeur also blends into the womenswear collection to complement his lady companion throughout the day and social gatherings. Men’s shirts, blazers and trousers are tailored close to the body, while new volumes reshape the silhouette of wide-leg trousers, flared skirts and puff sleeve blouses for her. A sense of newness is perceivable throughout the entire collection crafted from Prince of Wales wool, tweed, silk and knitted fabrics, to create a total look where personalised details are deeply influenced by examples of sober elegance inspired by La Dolce Vita. The collection also features a smaller version of the brand’s metal logo on Alcantara and elbow patches for Him, alongside handmade embroidery and floral appliqué for her.

  • Essential: a tale of the brand’s heritage elements

The distinctive elbow patch, the signature logo and its smaller version embroidered on the chest feature alongside a matching colour palette for Him and Her, boasting navy blue, teal, underwood green, classic melange grey and creamy hues.
