Uzbekistan and Malaysia Strengthen Tourism Ties

The Chairman of the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Development of Tourism, H.E. Anvar Sharopov recently arrived in Malaysia to improve cooperation between Uzbekistan and Malaysia in the tourism sector. Sharopov’s visit to Datuk Hj Hamzah Rahmat, President of the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agencies (MATTA) saw future plans to develop pilgrimage tourism packages for Malaysians to visit multiple historical and holy sites in Uzbekistan.

The visit is also expected to result in the signing of an interministerial Agreed Minutes between Sharopov and YB Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, Minister of Tourism and Culture Malaysia, which is expected to expand bilateral cooperation in the field of tourism and boost business ties and trade opportunities, between both countries.

Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva are some of the cities included in the pilgrimage tourism packages as they display numerous historical sites which aim to provide Muslims in Malaysia the opportunity to perform minor pilgrimages, and encourage Malaysians of all ethnicities to explore the rich historical heritage of Uzbekistan.
