Knownas the green heart of Italy because of its rich nature, Umbria has a unique identity as a result of millennia of civilization that left dense layers of memory and timeless masterpieces. It is possible to find ancient winding streets, surrounded by magnificent palaces and castles. Dotted with medieval towns and silent hermitages, the Umbrian hills offer fascinating sceneries which inspired many artists such as the famous actor Benigni for the movie “La vita è bella”, the photographer Steve McCurry with the exhibit of “Sensational Umbria”.
The main city is Perugia located 164 km northwards from Rome. It is a well-known cultural and artistic center with famous Renaissance artists such as Perugino, Pinturicchio, Raffaello and many others.

Perugia is close to another important city of Umbria: Assisi, anUnesco World Heritage site and the native town of St. Francis of Assisi. The Basilica of San Francis of Assisi and other Franciscan sites are full ofGiotto and Cimabue masterpieces for one to admire.
